Prayers to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

to Jesus My Lord, My God, My All

"Wherever a picture of My Heart is exposed and honored, it will draw down all manner of blessings."

I promise thee in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their sole refuge in this last moment.

Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before You. We are yours, and yours we wish to be; but to be more surely united with You, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known You; many, too, despising your precepts, have rejected You. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to your Sacred Heart.

Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken You, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned You; grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and the unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

Grant, O Lord, to your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give tranquillity of order to all nations; make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart
that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor forever. Amen.

Another Act of Consecration

I give myself and consecrate to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ, my person and my life, my actions, pains and sufferings, so that I may be unwilling to make use of any part of my being other than to honor, love and glorify the Sacred Heart. This is my unchanging purpose, namely, to be all His, and to do all things for the love of Him, at the same time renouncing with all my heart whatever is displeasing to Him. I therefore take You, O Sacred heart, to be the only object of my love, the guardian of my life, my assurance of salvation, the remedy of my weakness and inconstancy, the atonement for all the faults of my life and my sure refuge at the hour of death.

Be then, O Heart of goodness, my justification before God the Father, and turn away from me the strokes of his righteous anger. O Heart of love, I put all my confidence in You, for I fear everything from my own wickedness and frailty, but I hope for all things from Your goodness and bounty.

Remove from me all that can displease You or resist Your holy will; let your pure love imprint Your image so deeply upon my heart, that I shall never be able to forget You or to be separated from You.

May I obtain from all Your loving kindness the grace of having my name written in Your Heart, for in You I desire to place all my happiness and glory, living and dying in bondage to You. Amen.

Another Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O Adorable Heart of Jesus, the tenderest, the most amiable, the most generous of all hearts! Penetrated with gratitude at the sight of Thy benefits, I come to consecrate myself wholly and unreservedly to Thee! I wish to devote all my energies to propating Thy worship and winning, if possible, all hearts to Thee.
Receive my heart this day, O Jesus. Or rather take it, change it, purify it, to render it worthy of Thee; make it humble, gentle, patient, faithful, and generous like Thine, by inflaming it with the fire of Thy love. Hide it in Thy Divine Heart with all hearts that love Thee and are consecrated to Thee; never permit me to take my heart from Thee again. Let me rather die than grieve Thy Adorable Heart. Thou knowest O Heart of Jesus, that the desire of my heart is to love Thee always, to be wholly Thine in life and in death, in time and in eternity.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, today I wish to live in You, in Your Grace, in which I desire at all costs to persevere. Keep me from sin and strengthen my will by helping me to keep watch over my senses, my imagination, and my heart. Help me to correct my faults which are the source of sin. I beg You to do this, O Jesus, through Mary, Your Immaculate Mother.

Hail, Sacred Heart of Jesus, living and strengthening source of eternal life, infinite treasury of the Divinity, and burning furnace of divine love! You are my refuge and my sanctuary.

My loving Savior, consume my heart in that burning love with which your own Heart is inflamed. Pour out upon me those graces which flow from Your love. Let my heart be so united with Yours that our wills may be one, and my will may in all things be conformed with Your Will. May Your Will be the guide and rule of my desires and of my actions. Amen.

Most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I love You. With a lively sorrow for my sins I offer You this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, and pure, and perfectly obedient to Your Will.

Good Jesus, grant that I may live in You and for You. Protect me in the midst of danger and comfort me in my afflictions. Bestow on me health of body, assistance in temporal needs, Your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.

Prayer to St. Margaret Mary Alocoque,
Patroness of Devotees of the Sacred Heart

O Holy Visitandine, to hear your name is to recall the Sacred Heart Devotion, especially as practiced on First Fridays and in making reparation for sins.

From early youth you dedicated yourself to Jesus and exhibited fervent love for Him in the Eucharist. You became his chosen vessel to spread the devotion to the Sacred Heart which has done wonders in modern times.

Make all of us realize ever more Christ's words: "Behold this Heart that so greatly loved people." Amen.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, filled with infinite Love, broken by our ingratitude and pierced by our sins; yet loving us still; accept the consecration we make to Thee of all that we are and all that we have.

Take every faculty of our souls and bodies, only day by day draw us nearer and nearer to Thy Sacred Heart; and there as we shall hear the lesson, teach us Thy Holy Way. Amen.

Sacred Heart Novena: Pray for 9 consecutive days

DAY 1: The word "heart" is a strong word and a beautiful one. "Take heaert!" we say, when we want a man to pick up courage. "He gave her his heart," we say, when a man gives to a woman his pure love. With perfect understanding, we talk of a motherly heart...of a man who puts heart into his work...of the innocent heart of a child...of the pulsing heart of a city. What more natural then, that when Christ the Saviour revealed Himself once more to humanity, He should borrow our word, knowing that it would ring with complete familiarity? "Behold the heart that hath loved men so much," He cried, indicating His Own Heart. And men of good heart and of loving heart answered, "Indeed, we know how much You have loved us." To the Saviour who revealed Himself to the world that needs love, we pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 2: Ours is a gracious God of love, of that there is no slightest doubt. God the Father created the world lovingly and tenderly. The long passages of the ages--a flash of God's eternity--were spent in the preparation of a beautiful, convenient, well-stocked earth to be man's dwelling place. The newly made creatures, made to the image and likeness of the Heavenly Father, He adopted as His sons and daughters. When in dark rebellion, these sons and daughters revolted, "God so loved the world, as to give His only-begotten Son that...the world may be saved." The love story of God is written anew in the star of Bethlehem, the smile of the Child Jesus, His hidden life of service to Mary and to the villagers of Nazareth, the miracles and parables of His public life, the death by which Christ laid down His life for His friends. Then, on the wings of wind and in the symbolic form of flame, the Spirit of love came to dwell in human souls, divine love taking up its residence in the men and the women that God had loved into life, loved unto death, loved to their own sanctification. Before the three Persons of the Trinity, Who love us with a divine love, we kneel and pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 3: Christ of the tender and loving heart... The Infant heart that beat with the impulse of love on Christmas... The heart that yearned over the world, which was dark in ignorance and wandering in sin... The heart that leaped in response to the love of Mary and knew the warmth of a devoted Son for the foster father who guarded Him tenderly... The heart that could hardly wait for the beginnings of His work over the lost multitudes... The heart of the Good Shepherd searching for His lost sheep... The heart that speaks in the poetry of the parables and the strength of the sermons... The heart that yearned for sinners and drove the Saviour questing for them far into the night... The heart that raised the widow's son from death... The heart that selected twelve men as intimate friends and then responded gratefully to the love of the innocent John... The heart that poured itself out in miracles of healing and forgiveness and mercy and loving kindness... This is the Sacred Heart of the historic Saviour. To this Heart we pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 4: The heart of the Saviour broke during the course of the Passion. The paschal moon that shone with fierce brilliance over the garden was like a searchlight beating upon the sins of the parading world. Christ saw that world, knew its horror and vileness, and broke into a bloody sweat. Yet that Heart held Him captive when the traitor came and made Him call the betrayer "friend." Upon the loving Saviour, bound, not with cords and chains, but by His heartstrings, fell the blows of the scourging, the mockery of the mob, the spittle of the soldiers, the awful humiliation of public rejection. It was His Heart rather than His Head that was crowned with thorns. Upon the cross, it was His Heart that held Him fast. He loved us and delivered Himself for us. He bore our bruises and our infirmities. Greater love than this no man hath, that He die for His executioners. And that the last drop of love might flow out and the lowest and meanest of His sinners might find safe entrance to His Heart. He offers that Heart to the lance of the centurion. In the cleft of His Heart, as in the cleft of a rock, the penitent world has found warmth, safety, and protection. Before the suffering Christ of love, we pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 5: The ages roll swiftly along their course. God's love for His creatures is undying. The love of Christ lives on in the Mass and in the sacraments and in His abiding Presence upon the altar and in the soul. But men are fickle. Doubt is a cold and chilling thing. The hot flame of passion has a way of dying down to the dark, cold, dusty ashes of bitterness and despair. So it was that into an age when men taught the denial of God's love, when they rejected His Presence on the altar, or forbade believers to approach the altar, the God of love came again. A little nun, holy and loving, knelt in her Visitation Convent. Margaret Mary, she was called. The combination of the two names has become music to the Catholic world ever since that time. On the altar before her was the vision of the loving Christ. There was shown the tortured, flaming Heart. There were spoken such words of pathetic beauty, of such divine yearning, of dignity combined with passion that only God could have said them. "Behold the Heart that has loved men so much and has been loved so little in return." Beholding that Heart, we kneel adoringly to pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 6: As the symbol of love, Christ had chosen the heart, the favorite symbol of human speech. It was His human heart, still pierced with the spear of Calvary, still open to welcome returning sinners. Around that Heart was twined the crown of thorns; for though Christ is indeed King, He is a King Who won His kingdom along the bloody course of love. From the Heart leap up living flames. They are like the tongues of fire that descended upon the apostles when the Spirit of love came to inflame them for the apostolate. These flames are restless, as love is always restless; but while, like fire, they warm and light, they do not burn or destroy or even smudge. A tiny cross, that unfailing symbol of God's love even unto death, surmounts the Heart. Poetry has known that a sequence of sonnets could not say what a single glimpse of this Heart reveals! Catholics everywhere have looked upon the Heart of the Saviour and have known that it was offered to them. God's Heart was theirs for the asking, theirs if only they would give their own worthless hearts in exchange. Before the symbol of the Sacred Heart, we pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 7: Love is always generous. It gives without the prospect of reward. It asks only to give in a flooding desire to be lavishly generous. Much as the Heart of the Saviour had during His public life sought love and responded to love and been divinely grateful for the slightest sign of love, that Heart always thought first in terms of giving...giving...and more giving. Miracles for the needy, forgiveness for the sinful, faith for those in darkness, hope for the despairful--these were the outpourings of the Heart of the Saviour. Now again He speaks, this time to promise the sweet gifts of His love. To those who love Him, assurance of eternal salvation...To those who honor a picture of Him, peace in their households and blessings upon their family. His reward for little acts of devotion just before death... His Presence in the Blessed Sacrament... Favors, gifts--promises made out of the greatness of His love--to anyone who will show some little signs of love for Him... With that vision, the great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, old as Christianity itself but new in its present manifestation, moves in the wind-fed fire of love across the earth. Loving the Lover of our souls, we pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 8: "Behold the Heart that has loved men so much and that has been loved so little in return." It is upon the second half of the Saviour's statement that the loving Christian focuses his attention. We have known always the love of God. We have tried not to remember the lovelessness of men and women. With love for everyone and for everything, now as on the first Christmas, no love remains for Christ. With love walking in a thousand cheap disguises, as it did even during the climax of love on Calvary, love passes by without a nod to the victim of love. That is why the Saviour Himself asked loving souls for a little reparation. "Make up," He pleads, "for the millions who do not love Me. Tell Me at least that you wish sinners would stop their sin, and the faithful in name would become faithful in fact, and the sins committed in the ugly travesty on love would cease to kill the human power of love. Consecrate yourself," He begs, "to my Heart. Dedicate your homes and your children to My loving protection. Spend at least an occasional hour with Me." We consecrate ourselves to the loving Christ and pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Day 9: Christ of the Sacred Heart, Christ of the Blessed Sacrament--these two are identical. Devotion to the Sacred Heart is inseparably linked to devotion to the Holy Eucharist. Love for the Sacred Heart must inevitably lead to the tabernacle. Host and Heart are equally manifestions of the love of the Saviour for saints and sinners. The impulse of love in the Heart of the Saviour made inevitable the promise of the Eucharist, which climaxed the love feast of the loaves and the fishes. Love in the wonderful evening before His Passion, when love was the sole subject of His speech, inevitably passed beyond words and became bread made Flesh and wine made Blood, with the guarantee that never would He leave us orphans. That is why in His revelation to Saint Margaret Mary, Christ speaks of Holy Communion, that close union of the human soul with the divine. That is why He asks that on the first Friday we come to welcome Him. That is why He begs that on our knees before His loving Presence in the tabernacle we find the historice Christ in the Eucharistic Christ and remember that the love of Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Before the Eucharistic Heart of Christ, we kneel and pray:

O God, Who in the heart of Thy Son, wounded by our sins, dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us the infinite treasures of Thy love, grant, we beseech Thee, that we who now pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may also perform the duty of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Who livest and reignest with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, to Your most Sacred Heart, I confide this intention (state it). Only look upon me, then do what Your love inspires. Let Your Sacred Heart decide... I count on You... I trust in You... I throw myself on Your mercy. Lord, Jesus, You will not fail me.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, Your kingdom come.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked You for many favors, but I earnestly implore this one. Take it, place it in Your open Heart. When the Eternal Father looks upon it, He will see it covered with Your Precious Blood. It will be no longer my prayer, but Yours, Jesus. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You. Let me not be disappointed. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, we consecrate ourselves to Your divine Heart, with all that we are and have. We give You our thoughts, words, actions, our joys and sufferings of each day. We renew our promise to live as good Christians ever mindful of Your merciful love. Heart of Jesus, we take You as our security in whatever anxieties may assail us. Be our source of comfort and encouragement in every trial. Rule over us as King and Center of our hearts now and forever. Amen.

Family Prayer to the Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we entrust our family to You. Look down upon us and reveal to us the treasures of love, goodness, and grace in Your Heart. Forgive our sins and fortify our weakness, that we may serve You faithfully as You deserve. These favors we ask for ourselves and for every family in our neighborhood and homeland. Heart of Jesus, pierced by a soldier's lance on Calvary, be our refuge in life and our gateway to Paradise. Amen.

Prayer for All Human Needs

Lord Jesus Christ, Your Heart still cherishes all the redeemed and is moved to pity for every human need. Aware of Your invitation, "Come to Me," we pray for the afflicted, the sick, the confused, for all broken hearts, and shattered lives. We bring to You all their material, emotional, and spiritual needs as well as our own. By the love that led You to take flesh of the Virgin Mary, we plead for a favorable response to our prayers. Amen.

Daily Prayer to the Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart of our Saviour, please bless us as the new day dawns. May we grow today in Your friendship, in helpfulness to others, in gratitude for Your benefits beyond number. May Christly love fill our hearts, guard our thoughts, and inspire our actions. Jesus, we believe in Your love for us. We trust in You and want to remain forever in the safe haven of Your loving Heart. Amen.

Evening Prayer to the Sacred Heart

Heart of Jesus, of whose fullness we have all received, we thank You for Your great goodness to us today. Heart of Jesus, bruised for our offenses, forgive us our sins. Heart of Jesus, most worthy of all praise, may the angels and saints praise You while we are asleep. Dear Saviour, in the tenderness of Your Heart, watch over us tonight and always. Amen.

Jesus Victim, I wish to comfort Thee; I unite myself to Thee; I offer myself in union with Thee. I count myself as nothing before Thee;I desire to forget myself in order to think of Thee, to be forgotten and despised for love of Thee, not to be understood, not to be loved, except by Thee. I will hold my peace that I may listen to Thee; I will forsake myself that I may lose myself in Thee.

Grant that I may quench Thy thirst for my salvation, Thy burning thirst for my sanctification, and that, being purified, I may bestow on Thee a pure and true love. I would no longer weary Thine expectations; take me, I give myself to Thee. I entrust to Thee all my actions---my mind that Thou mayest enlighten it, my heart that Thou mayest direct it, my will that Thou mayest establish it, my misery that Thou mayest relieve it, my soul and my body that Thou mayest feed them.

Eucharistic Heart of my Jesus, Whose Blood is the life of my soul, may it be no longer I who live, but Thou alone Who livest in me. Amen.

Lord our God, grant us the grace to desire You with our whole heart, that so desiring, we may seek and find You; and so finding You, we may love You; and so loving You, we may hate those sins from which You have redeemed us.

~St. Anselm of Canterbury

O God, Who dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us infinite treasures of love in the Heart of Thy Son, which was wounded for our sins; grant, we beseech Thee, that we who pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may in like manner show unto Thee our due of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Memorare to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Remember, O most kind Jesus, that none who have had recourse to Your Sacred Heart, implored Its assistance, or called for mercy, have ever been abandoned.  Filled, and animated by this same confidence, O Divine Heart, Ruler of all hearts, I fly to You, and oppressed beneath the weight of my sins, I prostrate myself before You.  Despise not Your unworthy child, but grant me, I pray, an entrance into Your Sacred Heart.  Sustain me in all my combats and be with me now, and at all times, but especially in the hour of my death. O gracious Jesus!
O amiable Jesus!  O loving Jesus!

Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O Jesus, Divine Saviour, deign to cast a look of mercy upon Your children, who assemble in the same spirit of faith, reparation, and love, and come to deplore their own infidelities, and those of all poor sinners, their brethren.

May we touch Your Divine Heart by the unanimous and solemn promises we are about to make and obtain mercy for ourselves, for the world, and for all who are so unhappy as not to love You. We all promise that for the future:

For the forgetfulness and ingratitude of men, we will console You, O Lord.
For the way You are deserted in Your holy tabernacle, we will console You, O Lord.
For the crimes of sinners, we will console You, O Lord.
For the hatred of the impious, we will console You, O Lord.
For the blasphemies uttered against You, we will console You, O Lord.
For the sacrileges that profane Your Sacrament of Love, we will console You, O Lord.
For the outrages against Your divinity, we will console You, O Lord.
For the injuries of which You are the adorable Victim, we will console You, O Lord.
For the coldness of the greater part of your children, we will console You, O Lord.
For the contempt of your loving invitation, we will console You, O Lord.
For the infidelity of those who called themselves Your friends, we will console You, O Lord.
For the abuse of Your grace, we will console You, O Lord.
For our own unfaithfulness, we will console You, O Lord.
For the incomprehensible hardness of our hearts, we will console You, O Lord.
For our long delay in loving You, we will console You, O Lord.
For our tepidity in Your holy service, we will console You, O Lord.
For Your bitter sadness at the loss of souls, we will console You, O Lord.
For Your long waiting at the door of our hearts, we will console You, O Lord.
For the heartless scorn that grieves You, we will console You, O Lord.
For Your loving sighs, we will console You, O Lord.
For Your loving tears, we will console You, O Lord.
For Your loving imprisonment, we will console You, O Lord.
For Your loving death, we will console You, O Lord.

Let us pray: O Jesus!  Divine Saviour, from whose Heart comes forth this bitter complaint, "I looked for one that would comfort me, and I found none," graciously accept the feeble consolation we offer You, and aid us so powerfully by your grace, that we may, for the time to come, shun more and more all that can displease You, and prove ourselves in everything, and everywhere, and forever Your most faithful and devoted servants.  We ask it through Your Sacred Heart, O Lord, who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit one God, world without end.  Amen.

Traditional Prayer of Reparation to the Sacred Heart

Most loving Jesus, when I consider Your tender Heart and see It full of mercy and tenderness toward sinners, my own heart is filled with joy and confidence that I shall be so kindly welcomed by You.  Unfortunately, how many times have I sinned! But now, with Peter and with Magdalene, I weep for my sins and detest them because they offend You, infinite Goodness.  Mercifully grant me pardon for them all; and let me die rather than offend You again; at least let me live only to love You in return.  Amen.

Traditional Prayer of Reparation to the Sacred Heart

My loving Jesus, out of the grateful love I bear you, and to make reparation for my unfaithfulness to grace, I give You my heart, and I consecrate myself wholly to You; and with Your help I purpose to sin no more.  Amen.

Traditional Prayer of Reparation from the Irish

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on me.
O God, forgive me for all the sins of my life;
The sins of my youth and the sins of my age,
The sins of my body and the sins of my soul,
The sins I have confessed and the sins I have forgotten,
The sins against others in thought, word, and deed,
My sins of omission.
O, my God, I am sorry for all my sins, because You are so good;
And I will not sin again with the help of God.
God be merciful to me, a sinner.
Divine Heart of Jesus, convert sinners, save the dying,
Deliver the holy souls in purgatory.

Contemporary Prayer of Reparation to the Sacred Heart

Lord Jesus, Who loves us so much: we have not loved You as we easily might have, nor served You enough in our neighbor as we could have.  We are truly sorry for this unfaithful love and promise to do better in the future.  Because You accept everything that we do in God's grace, when done in a spirit of love and obedience, as reparation, we now offer You and Your Heart our every thought, word, deed, and suffering in union with Your own sufferings.  Join our reparation to that which You ceaselessly offer to the Father in the Mass and in the silence of the tabernacle.  Help us to suffer lovingly and to aid those who suffer.  Make Your redemptive love fruitful in the hearts of all those who will die today, so that all of us may love You for ever in heaven.  Amen.

Daily Prayer to the Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, mercifully accept the prayer which I now make to You for help in the moment of my death, when at its approach all my senses shall fail me.

When, therefore, O kind and merciful Jesus, my weary and downcast eyes can no longer look up to You, be mindful of the loving gaze which I now turn to You, and have mercy on me, a sinner.

When my parched lips can no longer kiss Your most sacred wounds, remember that hour those kisses which I now imprint on You, and have mercy on me, a sinner.

When my cold hands can no longer embrace Your cross, forget not the affection with which I embrace it now, and have mercy upon me, a sinner.  When my swollen and lifeless tongue can no longer speak, remember that I called upon You now, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, to you I commend my soul.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, filled with infinite love, broken by my ingratitude and pierced by my many sins and yet loving you still, accept this act of consecration that I make to You of all that I am and all that I have.  Take every faculty of my soul and body, draw me day by day near and nearer to Your Sacred Heart, and there, as I can bear the lesson, teach me Your blessed way.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, Incarnate Son of God, Who for our salvation did vouchsafe to be born in a stable, to pass Your life in poverty, trials, and misery, and to die amid the sufferings of the cross, I entreat You, in the hour of my death to say to Your divine  Father, "Father forgive him"; Say to my soul, "This day you to shall be with Me in Paradise." My God, my God forsake me not in that hour.  "I thirst"--truly, my God, my soul thirsts after You, Who are the fountain of living waters.  My life passes like a shadow; yet a little while and all will be consummated.  Wherefore, my adorable Saviour, from this moment, and for all eternity, "into Your hands I commend my spirit."  Lord Jesus, receive my soul.

O Queen of the Holy Rosary and most kind and loving Mother of Perpetual Help, in memory of your Seven Sorrows, intercede for us with your divine Son and beg Him, in honor of His Precious Blood and sacred passion and death upon the cross, to forgive our sins and grant us the grace of a holy and happy death.  Amen.

(Say one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.)

Prayer for the Forgiveness of Daily Neglects

Eternal Father, I offer the Sacred Heart of Jesus with all its love, all its sufferings of and all its merits:

First-To expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during all my life. (Glory Be)
Second-To purify the good I have done badly this day and during all my life.  (Glory Be.)
Third-To supply for the good I ought to have done and I have neglected this day and during all my life.  (Glory Be.)

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I Place My Trust in Thee

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee,
Whatever may befall me, Lord, though dark the hour may be;
In all my woes, in all my joys, though nought but grief I see,
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee.

When those I loved have passed away, and I am sore distressed,
0 Sacred Heart of Jesus, I fly toThee for rest.
In all my trials, great or small, my confidence shall be
Unshaken as I cry, dear Lord, I place my trust in Thee.

This is my one sweet prayer, dear Lord, my faith, my trust, my love,
But most of all in that last hour, when death points up above,
O sweet Saviour, may Thy face smile on my soul all free.
Oh may I cry with rapturous love, I've placed my trust inThee.

Offerings to the Sacred Heart

0 Sacred Heart of my Saviour, I offer you this action (or suffering) for all the intentions for which You offer Yourself at this moment upon the altar to God Your Father.

0 Jesus, who immolates Yourself at this moment upon the altar for the salvation of the whole world, I unite myself to You and (this sacrifice, this sorrow, this cross) to Your holy sacrifice, so that it may glorify Your Father, and be availing for the salvation of the world.

Let us go and die with Him.  Let us lay down at least that portion of our life which He demands of us: some selfish interest, some frivolous pleasure, some perverse inclination, and let us unite this slight sacrifice to the loving immolation of our Jesus mystically dying upon the Eucharistic altar at the very moment we are making our sacrifice, and helping us to make it lovingly.

0 Jesus, immolating Yourself at this moment upon the altar, make us love You more and more.

O Jesus, Who immolates Yourself at this moment for the salvation of the whole world, inflame the whole world with the fire of Your love.

Prayer to the Sacred Heart for Priests

Remember, 0 most loving Heart of Jesus, that they for whom I pray are those for whom You prayed so earnestly the night before Your death.  These are they to whom You look to continue with You in Your sorrows when others forsake You, who share Your griefs and have inherited your persecutions, according to Your word: That the servant is not greater than his Lord.  Remember, O Heart of Jesus, that they are the objects of the world's hatred and Satan's deadliest snares.  Keep them then, 0 Jesus, in the safe citadel of Your Sacred Heart and there let them be sanctified in truth. May they be one with you and one among themselves, and grant that multitudes may be brought through their word to believe in You and love You.

Prayer to the Eternal Father

0 Eternal Father, through the divine Heart of Jesus, I adore You for all those adore You not; I love You for all those who do not love You.  I go in spirit through the whole world to seek for souls redeemed by the Blood of Jesus.  I embrace them in order to present them to You in His Sacred Heart, and in union with your merciful Heart, I ask for their conversion.

~Bl. Marie de l'Incarnation

Prayer before an Image or Picture of the Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, pour out Your benedictions upon the Holy Church, upon its priests, and upon all its children.  Sustain the just, convert the sinners, assist the dying, deliver the souls in purgatory, and extend over all hearts the sweet empire of Your love.  Amen.

Short Litany of Aspirations to the Sacred Heart

May I prove to You my love, O Heart of Jesus, by a spirit of self-sacrifice for your interests.
May I cheerfully make every sacrifice You demand of me, O Heart of my Jesus.
May the sacrifices You ask of me glorify You, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice made forYour love draw me nearer to You, O Heart of My Jesus.
By increasing in the spirit of self-sacrifice, may I become more like You.
May the sacrifices I make be agreeable to You, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice win one soul to You, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice prevent one mortal sin, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice earn a special grace for some soul, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice merit a holy death for some soul, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice relieve a soul in purgatory, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice ascend as a prayer to You, O Heart of My Jesus.
May each sacrifice be as a hymn of praise to You, O Heart of My Jesus.
May Your Holy Spirit instruct me more and more in the spirit of self-sacrifice, O Heart of My Jesus.
May the spirit of self-sacrifice increase in our family, O Heart of My Jesus.
May the same spirit be propagated throughout the whole Church, 0 Heart of my Jesus,
And may it hasten the Church's triumph.

O Lamb of God, sacrificed for us, give us a spirit of self-sacrifice.
O Lamb of God, daily immolating Yourself upon the altar for us, give us grace to immolate our wills for Your sake.
O Lamb of God, dying for us, give us grace to die to all that wounds Your Sacred Heart.

Let us pray: O Lord Jesus Christ, Whose whole life was one continual sacrifice for the glory of Your Father and the salvation of our souls, grant us the grace to find our joy in making sacrifices for You and for the interests of Your Sacred Heart.  Amen.

Prayer To Obtain a Conversion or Any Spiritual Favor

Lord, all hearts are in Your hands; You can bend as You will the most stubborn, and soften the most obdurate.  Do that honor this day to the Precious Blood, the merits, the Sacred Wounds, the Holy Name, and loving Heart of Your beloved Son, of granting a conversion of (Name of the person or of bestowing such a grace, etc.).

Novena Prayer To Obtain Any Spiritual Favor

Divine Jesus, You have said, "Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you." Behold me kneeling at Your feet, filled with a lively faith and confidence in the promises dictated by Your Sacred Heart to Saint Margaret Mary. I come to ask this favor: (Mention your request).

To whom can I turn if not to You, Whose Heart is the source of all graces and merits? Where should I seek if not in the treasure which contains all the riches of Your kindness and mercy? Where should I knock if not at the door through which God gives Himself to us and through which we go to God? I have recourse to You, Heart of Jesus. In You I find consolation when afflicted, protection when persecuted, strength when burdened with trials, and light in doubt and darkness.

Dear Jesus, I firmly believe that You can grant me the grace I implore, even though it should require a miracle. You have only to will it and my prayer will be granted. I admit that I am most unworthy of Your favors, but this is not a reason for me to be discouraged. You are the God of mercy, and You will not refuse a contrite heart. Cast upon me a look of mercy, I beg of You, and Your kind Heart will find in my miseries and weakness a reason for granting my prayer.

Sacred Heart, whatever may be Your decision with regard to my request, I will never stop adoring, loving, praising, and serving You. My Jesus, be pleased to accept this my act of perfect resignation to the decrees of Your adorable Heart, which I sincerely desire may be fulfilled in and by me and all Your creatures forever.

Grant me the grace for which I humbly implore You through the Immaculate Heart of Your most sorrowful Mother. You entrusted me to her as her child, and her prayers are all-powerful with You. Amen.

Morning Offering

Dear Lord, I adore Thy Sacred Heart, which I desire to enter with acts of love, praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. I offer Thee my own heart as I sigh to Thee from its very depths, asking that Thou will worketh through me in all that I do this day; thus may I draw Thee closer to me than Thou wert before. I offer Thee all the crosses and sufferings of the world, in union with Thy life on earth, in expiation for sins. Please join my every action and heartbeat to the pulsations of Thy Heart. I unite all my works of this day to those labors Thou didst perform while Thou wert on earth, bathing them in Thy Precious Blood, and I offer them to the Heavenly Father so that many souls may be saved. Amen.

Chaplet of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

(by Father Croiset, S.J.; chaplet is composed of 5 large beads and 33 small beads, in honor of the 33 years Our Lord spent on earth.)

Begin with the Apostle's Creed, or the Anima Christi

Before each large bead say:
Jesus most meek, make my heart like unto Thine.

On each large bead say:
We adore Thee, O Jesus, Who hast been afflicted in the Garden of Gethsemane and Who still in our time art outraged in the Blessed Sacrament by the impious conduct of men. O most amiable Saviour, we recognize that Thou alone art holy, Thou alone art Lord, Thou alone art Most High.

On each small bead say:
I adore Thee, O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, inflame my heart with the divine love with which Thine Own is all on fire.

At the end of the beads say 1 Our Father, and 1 Hail Mary, then the following prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who by an ineffable miracle of love, hast deigned to give Thy Heart to men to serve as their nourishment, in order thereby to gain their hearts, graciously hear our humble prayers, and pardon us for the sins of which we confess ourselves guilty before Thee. Cast an eye of compassion and mercy upon those whom Thou dost condescend to direct the affections of Thine amiable Heart. And since we desire to honor Thee in the adorable Mystery of the Altar to the utmost of our power and to render Thee most pleasing homage, and for that intention, weep for and detest from the bottom of our hearts all the outrages, contempt, mockery, sacrileges, and other acts of impiety which ungrateful men in every part of the world have committed against Thee, enkindle therefore in our hearts this divine love with which Thine Own is inflamed, and inspire us with sentiments like unto Thine, in order that we may be able worthily to praise for all eternity the love with which this Sacred Heart burns for us. This is our prayer to Thee Who livest and reignest with the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

Chaplet to Obtain a Great Confidence

The ordinary rosary beads may be used. On the large beads repeat the prayer See where, etc. [below]. On the small beads repeat the aspiration Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee!

Our Lord has for some time deigned to work many wonders through the invocation:

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee!

See where Thy boundless Love has reached, my loving Jesus! Thou of Thy Flesh and Precious Blood hast made ready for me a banquet whereby to give me all Thyself. Who drove Thee to this excess of love for me? Thy Heart, Thy loving Heart! O adorable Heart of Jesus, burning furnace of Divine Love! Within Thy Sacred Wounds take Thou my soul, in order that, in that school of charity, I may learn to love that God Who hast given me such wondrous proofs of His great love. Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee! (repeat 10 times).

Beads of the Sacred Heart (by Fr. Croiset, S.J.)

As there is nothing so ingenious as love, several great Saints in their great eagerness to make, each day, numerous acts of their favorite virtues according to the various inspirations of grace, have invented several kinds of chaplets composed of acts of these virtues. After their example, the beads of the Sacred Heart has been formed. It is composed of five large beads and thirty-three small ones in honor of the thirty-three years Our Lord spent on earth.

Instead of the Creed, the following prayer may be said:

Soul of Jesus Christ, sanctify me.
Heart of Jesus, inflame me with love.
Body of Jesus Christ, save me.
Blood of Jesus Christ, inebriate me.
Water out of the Side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy Wounds, hide me.
Let me not be separated from Thee.
Defend me from the malignant enemy.
At the hour of death, call me
And bid me to come unto Thee
That with the Saints, I may praise Thee
For all eternity. Amen.

Before each large bead say:

Jesus most meek, make my heart like unto Thine.

On each large bead say:

We adore Thee, O Jesus, Who hast been afflicted in the Garden of Gethsemani and Who still in our time art outraged in the Blessed Sacrament by the impious conduct of men. O most amiable Savior, we recognize that Thou alone art Holy, Thou alone art Lord, Thou alone art Most High.

On each small bead say:

I adore Thee, O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, inflame my heart with the Divine love with which Thine Own is all on fire.

At the end of the beads say 1 Our Father and 1 Hail Mary, and the following prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who by an ineffable miracle of love, hast deigned to give Thy Heart to men to serve as their nourishment, in order thereby to gain their hearts, graciously hear our humble prayers, and pardon us for the sins of which we confess ourselves guilty before Thee. Cast an eye of compassion and mercy upon those towards whom Thou dost condescend to direct the affections of Thine amiable Heart. This is our prayer to Thee Who livest and reignest with the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Your altar. We are Yours, and Yours we wish to be; but, to be more surely united with You, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known You; many too, despising Your precepts, have rejected You. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Your Sacred Heart.

You are King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken You, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned You; grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

You are King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof; call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

You are King of all those who are still involved in the darkness of idolatry or of Islamism; refuse not to draw them all into the light and kingdom of God. Turn Your eyes of mercy toward the children of that race, once Your chosen people. Of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Savior; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life.

Grant, O Lord, to Your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to It be glory and Honor forever. Amen.
